About this experience
Step into a local artisan's studio near Ella and spend 5.5 hours learning the traditional Sri Lankan craft of batik. Under the guidance of a skilled batik artist, you work through the full process — applying hot wax to fabric to create a resist pattern, then immersing the cloth in vivid dyes to reveal intricate, colourful designs. All materials are provided, and lunch is included, so you can focus entirely on the craft.
This is a private workshop, meaning the session is exclusively yours — ideal for families (ages 12 and up), couples, or solo travellers wanting a hands-on cultural experience without a crowd. By the end of the session you leave with a batik piece you've made yourself, whether a wall hanging or a length of fabric, along with a genuine understanding of a craft central to Sri Lankan heritage. Note that transport to and from the studio is not included.
