About this experience
Set off from your Kandy hotel at 07:30 and spend eight hours exploring the countryside on foot, by public bus, and by tuk-tuk. The route links three ancient temples: Gadaladeniya, built in South Indian style on a hilltop with panoramic views; Lankathilaka, a 14th-century shrine perched on a giant rock; and Embekke Devala, renowned for its intricate wood carvings. The 4.5 km trek between the first two temples winds through home gardens, paddy fields, and narrow village paths, with fresh fruit offered along the way.
After traditional Sri Lankan snacks at midday, you trek onward past tea plantations and small local industries to Embekke Devala, then board a public bus to Daulagala and hop a tuk-tuk to Pilimatalawa before finishing at a herbal and spices garden. This is a private tour with hotel pickup and drop-off included. Entrance fees for the temples, food, drinks, and personal expenses are not included. Minimum age is 7.
