Barefoot Ceylon

Barefoot is the Colombo handloom house founded by the artist Barbara Sansoni, who began designing for women learning to weave in the early 1960s. Its cloth of bright colour and simple geometry is woven by hand in cotton, and made by needlewomen into sarongs, shawls, bags, soft toys, cushion covers and household linen.

The Barefoot Bookshop on Galle Road, which started on a single shelf in 1990, specialises in Sri Lankan authors, books on Sri Lanka and coffee-table books on art, architecture, design and photography.
