A children's story in Sinhala, retold for young Sri Lankan readers by Dedigama V. Rodrigo. The original is by the Russian children's writer Sofiya Mogilevskaya, whose story belongs to a familiar European line of folk tales — the same tradition that produced "The Little Red Hen" — in which idleness is held up for criticism and steady, shared work is what earns a reward.

The lesson at its centre is plain: things get done when people are willing to pitch in, and the pleasure of the result belongs to those who did the work. It is the kind of short, clearly shaped tale written to be read aloud to a child, or read alone by a child who has recently begun managing a page without help.

The text is entirely in Sinhala. Buyers ordering from outside Sri Lanka should know there is no English in it, and no parallel translation — this is a Sinhala-language edition intended for Sinhala readers. For families abroad raising children with the language, that is often exactly the point: simple, familiar story material in a form a child can follow, with vocabulary pitched at a young reader rather than at a translation exercise.

M. D. Gunasena & Co. is a long-established Colombo publishing house with a substantial children's and schools list in Sinhala, and this title sits within that general-reading range for young readers.
