About this experience
Picked up from your Dikwella hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, you head north to the Lunuganga estate — the meticulously landscaped country retreat designed by Sri Lanka's most celebrated architect, Sir Geoffrey Bawa. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide walks you through the terraced gardens and intimate courtyards that shaped a generation of tropical design. From there, the tour continues to the Madu River, where a private boat safari threads through tunnels of mangrove, past tiny island temples and monitor lizards basking on the banks.
The full outing runs six hours and is operated as a private tour, so the pace is yours to set. Hotel pickup and drop-off, all transport, the river boat safari, and a water bottle per person are included. Entrance tickets and meals are not covered and should be budgeted separately. Minimum age for participation is five years.
