Question 1

How far is Dungalpitiya from Colombo?

Accepted Answer

Dungalpitiya is approximately 23 kilometres north of central Colombo, following the main coastal highway through Katunayake. In moderate traffic the drive typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes by private car.

Question 2

Is Dungalpitiya close to Bandaranaike International Airport?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the town sits in the same coastal corridor as the airport at Katunayake, making it one of the closer inhabited areas to Colombo's international gateway. A private transfer between the two points is usually a short journey.

Question 3

What is Dungalpitiya known for?

Accepted Answer

Dungalpitiya is a small, largely residential town rather than a major tourist destination. It is primarily known as a waypoint on the route between Colombo Airport and Negombo, and the surrounding area offers quiet canal scenery and easy access to the northwest coast.

Question 4

Can I get a private transfer from Dungalpitiya to Colombo Airport?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Lakpura arranges private door-to-door transfers on this route. Fares are quoted per trip at the time of booking, and vehicles are air-conditioned. An English-speaking chauffeur-guide can be included on request.

Question 5

What is the best time of year to travel through the Dungalpitiya area?

Accepted Answer

The northwest coastal belt is generally drier and more comfortable between November and April, outside the southwest monsoon season. Short transits are feasible year-round, but longer visits to the surrounding area are better planned for the dry months.

Question 6

Where should I stay if I am spending time near Dungalpitiya?

Accepted Answer

Negombo, a short drive away, offers the widest selection of accommodation in the area, from budget guesthouses to beach resort hotels. Katunayake, near the airport, is also a practical base for very early or very late flights.

Question 7

What day trips can I do from the Dungalpitiya and Negombo area?

Accepted Answer

The most popular excursions from this corridor include the Sacred City of Anuradhapura (a full-day trip), the Dambulla Cave Temple, and Sigiriya Rock Fortress, all accessible by private car with Lakpura. Closer to hand, a Dutch Canal boat ride through the mangroves near Negombo is a low-key but rewarding half-day activity.
