▶️The Legend Behind the Sacred Shrine

According to local tradition, the story of Dewatagaha began in 1802, when a poor woman selling oil miraculously received help from a mysterious elderly man. Later, a physician dreamt of a saint whose grave lay beneath a Dewata tree and a fruitless date palm. In 1847, Sheikh Ali Jabri Maulana identified the site as the resting place of Sheikh Usman ibn Abdul Rahman Waliullah, who had come to Sri Lanka to spread Islam.

The mosque's striking architecture reflects a strong Mughal influence, featuring elegant minarets, decorative towers, and intricate Islamic calligraphy.
