Polonnaruwa, a World heritage Site, was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka during the period from 11th century to 13th century A.D. Today Polonnaruwa is home to numerous preserved ruins and a number of renovated rainwater reservoirs and canals that irrigate the agricultural district of Polonnaurwa and surrounding area.
