Sri Maha Bodhi, Sri Lanka
Sri Maha Bodhi, Anuradhpaura in Sri Lanka is the oldest recorded historic tree in the world. Sri Maha Bodhi was grown from a cutting off the bi tree in Bodhgaya, India, in the shelter of which Buddha attained supreme enlightenement. Sri Lanka's great historical chronicle, Mahawamsa has recorded that the cutting was brought to Sri Lanka from India during the era of Emperor Asoka of India. Sri Maha Bodhi at the holy city of Anuradhapura is one of the most venerable Buddhist pilgrimages sites of Sri Lanka.
