Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort is a five-star resort of 152 rooms and pool villas set in a coconut plantation on the Goyambokka estate, a couple of kilometres west of Tangalle on Sri Lanka's south coast. It looks over the Indian Ocean from a rocky headland, with its own stretch of beach below and a lotus-pond lobby at the heart of the grounds.
Rooms and villas are spread across the plantation, each with a terrace or balcony; the villas add a private plunge pool and a villa host. There are seven categories:
Our booking box does not list these categories separately, so when you send your request tell us which room or villa you would like, your dates and who is travelling, and we will confirm availability and the rate with the resort.
Journeys is the all-day restaurant with international and Sri Lankan dishes, including the curries the island is known for. Il Mare serves Italian food, Verele is a teppanyaki grill with Sri Lankan touches, and El Vino is the wine bar and cellar. There is a poolside bar for snacks and sundowners, a beachside bar for cocktails, and the resort can arrange private dinners, including tables set up on the sand.
The main pool looks out over the ocean, and the Anantara Spa offers massages and Ayurvedic treatments. There is a gym, tennis and badminton courts, sunrise yoga, surf lessons and water sports, and nature walks through the estate. Families are well looked after, with a kids' and teens' club. Wheelchair-accessible rooms are available.
Goyambokka Beach is right beside the resort, and the quieter beaches around Tangalle are a short drive away. Green turtles come ashore to nest at night at Rekawa, east of Tangalle, and the Hummanaya blowhole lies to the west near Kudawella. Inland, the rock temple of Mulkirigala is an easy half-day outing. The resort puts Udawalawe and Bundala national parks within about 90 minutes, and Yala makes a full-day safari. In season, whale-watching boats leave from Mirissa further west.
The resort gives the drive from Bandaranaike International Airport as about three hours by the Southern Expressway, and Galle as just over an hour away. The simplest way to arrive is our private transfer from Colombo airport to Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle. Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport is about 75 minutes away by road.
It suits couples and families who want a full-service beach resort on the quieter end of the south coast, with several restaurants, a spa and activities on site, and the option of a private pool villa. Three or four nights gives time for the beach, a turtle-watching evening and a safari day. For more choice in the area, see our places to stay in Tangalle.
