Located ideally in Riverston, Matale, the area which was once a tea planter’s paradise is now a part of the Knuckles Conservation Project allowing the area to regain its natural beauty to become a haven for nature lovers. Sir John's Kotalawala in Matale consists of 5 accommodation units which are all stylishly appointed with all modern conveniences. All guestrooms feature king sized beds, attached bathrooms with hot water showers and stylish teak floors. 'Gonamade' is a standard double room which opens out to the veranda while 'Laggala' and 'Wasgamuwa' are standard triple rooms that can be expanded to accommodate 4 guests with the help of an extra bed. There are also 2 suites 'Riverston' and 'Sir John's with window seats and four-legged cast iron bathtubs, flat screen televisions with satellite connections and a DVD player.
Sir John's bungalow also comprises of a library with fascinating books of old Sri Lanka, a wide selection of enjoyable board games and also an easel, canvas and oil paints for the artist in you. A 14 seater dining table is available in the dining room while guests can also enjoy delicious home cooked meals in a private dining area, the veranda or even the garden by the stream that flows through.
