An early learning picture book for very young children, part of the First Explorer Series from the Colombo publisher M. D. Gunasena. The series is made for children from around the age of two, with each title built around a single first concept presented through colourful illustrations.
This one takes transport as its subject. It moves through travel by land, air, sea and rail, showing different kinds of vehicles and what each is used for. The illustrations are drawn for a child-friendly audience, and the aim across the series is to build vocabulary and observation skills in a child who is still learning to name what they see.
It suits the stage before reading proper begins — the point at which a child can recognise a picture, hear a word for it and start to repeat it back. Adults reading aloud will find it works as a prompt for pointing, naming and asking questions rather than as a story to be read straight through. The text is in English.
Of interest to parents and grandparents building a first shelf of books for a toddler, to playgroups and nursery classrooms, and to anyone looking for Sri Lankan-published early learning material.
