One title from the First Explorer Series, an illustrated early-learning set built around single first concepts for very young children. This one is about professions and community helpers — the people children see at work around them, and the jobs they do.
The approach across the series is the same: a concept introduced through colourful, child-friendly illustrations rather than text, so that a child who is not yet reading can still work through the pages with an adult naming things aloud. The publisher's intention is vocabulary building, observation and the confidence that comes from recognising and naming what is on the page. For a book about professions, that means pictures a child can point at and words a child can begin to repeat.
It is suited to toddlers and pre-schoolers, and to the shared reading that happens at that age — a parent or carer turning pages and talking, rather than a child reading alone. Nursery and playgroup settings looking for simple picture material in English will find it works the same way.
The text is in English. It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, a Sri Lankan house with a long presence in educational and children's publishing. Buyers outside Sri Lanka who want Sri Lankan-published children's material for a home library, or a gift for a very young child, will find this a straightforward introduction to the series.
