Question 1

What is Chandana in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Chandana is a Sri Lankan Ayurvedic personal-care brand whose name derives from the Sinhala word for sandalwood. The range includes soaps, face washes, body lotions, shampoos, baby care products, and pain-relief preparations based on traditional herbal formulations.

Question 2

Where can I buy Chandana products in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Chandana products are sold in pharmacies, supermarkets, and general stores throughout Sri Lanka, as well as at Bandaranaike International Airport retail outlets. They are also available through Lakpura's online store, with international shipping options.

Question 3

Is Chandana a genuine Ayurvedic brand?

Accepted Answer

Chandana formulations are based on classical Ayurvedic and Sri Lankan herbal medicine principles, using ingredients such as neem (kohomba), venivel, gotukola, and Indian gooseberry (nelli). Like all Ayurvedic products marketed in Sri Lanka, they are subject to registration and oversight by the government's Department of Ayurveda.

Question 4

What is the Chandanalepa Giniraja balm used for?

Accepted Answer

The Giniraja balm is a warming herbal preparation traditionally used for muscular aches, joint stiffness, and minor pain relief. It is applied topically and is one of the better-known products in the Chandana pain-relief line.

Question 5

Are Chandana baby products safe for newborns?

Accepted Answer

The Chandana baby range — including the Milk and Honey soap and the Kohomba and Venival cream — is formulated to a gentler standard than the adult line. As with any personal-care product for infants, it is advisable to patch-test first and consult a paediatrician if your child has known sensitivities.

Question 6

What is the difference between Chandana Kohomba and Venivel soaps?

Accepted Answer

The Kohomba (neem) soap is primarily antimicrobial and suited to oily or acne-prone skin, while the Venivel soap incorporates Coscinium fenestratum, a plant used in traditional medicine for its skin-brightening and antibacterial properties. Both are coconut-oil-based Ayurvedic bars.

Question 7

Can I take Chandana products through airport customs?

Accepted Answer

Most Chandana solid soaps and creams travel without issue in checked luggage. Liquid products such as face washes, shampoos, and body lotions must comply with your departure airport's liquid restrictions for carry-on baggage — typically containers of 100ml or less placed in a clear bag.

Question 8

What does 'chandana' mean in Sinhala?

Accepted Answer

In Sinhala, chandana (චන්දන) refers to sandalwood, specifically the heartwood of Santalum species prized in South Asian medicine and ritual for its cooling, aromatic, and anti-inflammatory properties. The brand name signals its Ayurvedic and botanical identity.
