About this experience
Your private, English-speaking chauffeur guide collects you from your Kandy hotel at 8:30 am in an air-conditioned vehicle. By 9:00 am you're walking the Royal Botanic Gardens of Peradeniya — one of Asia's finest, with thousands of plant species and a history that stretches from the British era through its role as Allied Forces Headquarters in World War II. You have three hours to roam the vast grounds at your own pace before heading to Hingula Village, where a tuk tuk carries you through rubber plantations and paddy fields. Ride an oxen cart, watch coconuts being harvested, learn to prepare Roti and Pol Sambol, share the meal inside a thatched clay home, then cool off with a dip in a natural rock pool.
After a lunch break of your choice in Kandy, the afternoon takes you inside the UNESCO-listed Temple of the Tooth Relic, followed by presentations on Sri Lanka's gem industry and wood crafting. At 5:00 pm the Kandy Cultural Show brings Kandyan, demon, and fire dances to life on stage. You're back at your hotel by 6:00 pm. Each person receives 1 litre of bottled mineral water. Note: entrance fees for the gardens and the temple are not included.
