About this experience
Step into your private, air-conditioned vehicle from your Sigiriya hotel and head north to Ritigala, the highest mountain in the north-central dry plains of Sri Lanka. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide leads you through the ancient forest monastery ruins scattered across the slopes — crumbling pathways, meditation platforms, and a stillness rarely found at busier heritage sites. Water bottles are provided to keep you refreshed in the dry-zone heat.
From Ritigala, you continue to Kala Wewa, a vast reservoir fed by the ancient Yoda Canal — an extraordinary feat of hydraulic engineering. Nearby, the Avukana Buddha Statue rises over 12 metres from a single granite rock. The day ends at Jathika Namal Uyana, the largest ironwood forest in Asia, where rose-quartz outcrops glow pink against the forest canopy. Hotel drop-off is included. Entrance tickets, meals, and gratuities are not. Minimum age is 10; the full tour runs approximately 11 hours.
