Kalpitiya Lagoon Boat Safari (Private Day Tour)

Meet your guide at Kalpitiya Dutch Fort at 7 am for a briefing on the area's Dutch colonial history, geology, marine life, and birdlife. Board your private boat and cruise through the Puttalam lagoon system — three interconnected stretches of water bordering Wilpattu National Park. You pass 14 islands, weave through mangrove swamps, skirt sandy beaches and coastal plains, and scan the water for Sri Lanka's rare Pink Dolphins. Bring binoculars: the lagoon is renowned for pelagic birds, waders, and an impressive variety of other species. Keep your camera ready as the boat enters Wilpattu, where a chance sighting of a Sri Lankan Leopard is never out of the question.

The tour pauses at a giant Baobab tree towering above the surrounding jungle, then your boat moors for a picnic lunch on the riverbank — hot Lampraise with a chilled beer, curd and treacle. Refreshments and cold towels are included throughout the day. Your Adventure Specialist, trained and certified in CPR and first aid, hosts the entire trip. The safari wraps up at approximately 2 pm when your chauffeur meets you at the drop-off point. Note that hotel pick-up and drop-off are not included.
