About this experience
Lace up your boots and step into Udawattakele Forest Reserve, a protected sanctuary sitting just above the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. Over four hours, your English-speaking naturalist leads you along stone-laid trails that once wound through royal pleasure gardens centuries ago. The dense canopy closes in quickly, and the city noise fades as you scan the treetops for rare and endemic bird species found nowhere else in Sri Lanka. Entrance tickets and refreshments are included, so you can focus entirely on the forest.
This is a private hike — your group, your pace. Children aged seven and above are welcome to join. Hotel pick-up and drop-off are not included, so you'll arrange your own transfer to the reserve entrance. Lakpura organises the guide and all sanctuary fees, leaving you free to simply walk, watch, and listen to one of Kandy's most rewarding green spaces.
