About this experience
Your chauffeur picks you up from your Colombo hotel and heads south along the coast for a full-day private tour. First stop is Handunugoda Tea Factory in Handungoda, where you see how virgin white tea is produced without human hands touching the leaves — a technique revived from ancient Chinese tradition. From there, drive to Ahangama to watch stilt fishermen balance on their poles over the surf and hear about their craft directly from the fishermen themselves.
After a free lunch break at a restaurant of your choice, explore Galle Fort — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — taking in the lighthouse, the National Maritime Museum, and the cobblestoned colonial streets that survived centuries of foreign rule. The day ends at Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, where you learn about the five sea turtle species that nest on Sri Lanka's shores, handle baby turtles, and see injured adults being rehabilitated. Entrance fees, a litre of bottled water per person, and your return transfer to Colombo are all included.
