About this experience
Your driver-guide picks you up from your hotel at 08:30 and heads south along Sri Lanka's southwestern coast. The first stop, reached around 10:00, is the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, where you meet all five endangered sea turtle species that nest on this shoreline. Watch how conservationists protect the nests, then see, touch, and feed baby turtles — and sometimes injured adults under care. By 11:00 you're in Balapitiya for a boat safari on the Madu River, weaving through mangrove passages, spotting basking crocodiles and water monitors, visiting a cinnamon-harvesting island, and trying the famous fish massage.
Lunch at 13:30 is at a restaurant of your choice (at your own expense), before arriving in Galle by 15:30. Explore the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort — one of Asia's best-preserved colonial fortifications — walk the Dutch-named cobblestone streets, and visit the Maritime Museum, National Museum, and lighthouse. The tour wraps up at 17:30, returning you to your hotel around 19:00. Transport throughout is in an air-conditioned vehicle, with an English-speaking chauffeur-guide, bottled water, and all taxes included. Minimum age is 7.
