About this experience
Lace up your boots and head into Horton Plains National Park, a protected cloud forest and montane grassland sitting at 2,100–2,300 metres in Sri Lanka's central highlands. Over four hours, your knowledgeable guide leads you along the trails, pointing out the park's resident birds — from the Ceylon whistling thrush to the dusky-blue flycatcher — and explaining the unique high-altitude ecosystem around you. This is a private activity, so the pace suits your group.
The trek covers open rolling grassland, patches of dense cloud forest, and rocky terrain shaped by mist and altitude. Your guide provides running commentary throughout, identifying species by call as well as sight. Children aged five and above are welcome. Gratuities, food, drinks, and personal expenses are not included, so bring water and snacks for the trail.
