ShangriLa, although situated slightly away from the beach, is still very much a part of Unawatuna's characterful lifestyle. Shangri La Location
ShangriLa is a good-value beachside guest house with a reputation for good-quality meals and homely rooms and cabanas. It is situated a five minute walk from Unawatuna's sandy beaches just off the main Galle-Matara road. Galle's historic 17th century Dutch Fort is a 15 minutes drive. The journey from Colombo's International Airport will take approximately four-and-a-half hours.
Shangri La Accommodation
Nine wooden cabanas, built on stilts, scattered around the garden. The cabanas have a double bedroom (twins or double beds) with overhead ceiling fan and ensuite bathroom with h/w shower, wash basin, and w/c. Each cabana has its own small timber deck with lounging chairs. There is also a self-contained cottage with two double rooms, bathroom and kitchen. The main house, with five bedrooms, two bathrooms and dining area is rented out for larger groups and can accommodate up to seven people.
Shangri La Facilities
The main restaurant, bar and kitchen is centrally located and offers a mix of Sri Lankan and Western cuisine. A special menu is available daily and is rightly popular. The upper floor of the restaurant consists of a games area with two billiard tables.Other facilities include satellite TV, DVD player, music system, library and internet stations. Hammocks are available in the garden.

Safe swimming is possible just five minutes away in Unawatuna's beautiful bay. Watersports include deep-sea fishing, catamaran and boat rides, surfing and snorkelling. High on the headland of Unawatuna Bay is Rhumassala Temple.Walk around the headland through hidden villages and verdant jungle valleys eventually finding yourself on `Jungle Beach' - a little known and secluded beach. Galle's historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 15 minutes away. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and Portugese period buildings.Sturdy ramparts looking out to sea and a growing collection of art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.
