Getting There

The drive from Colombo to Mirissa Hills takes roughly three to four hours. Guests arriving from Galle will find the estate only about thirty minutes away. For those preferring to fly, Sri Lankan Air Taxi service flights are available to Koggala — a journey of approximately forty-five minutes — and the hotel is able to arrange airport transfers.

The Three Accommodation Units

The Bungalow

At the base of the hill stands The Bungalow, an immaculately restored old estate house — known locally as a Walauwa — built in the early part of the last century. Set amid a well-kept lawn and indigenous trees, it offers country living at its finest. The sitting room is light and airy, opening onto a dining area furnished with a single plank wooden table, while a breakfast area adjoins the kitchen. Three bedrooms accommodate double occupancy, one of which has a double bed. Each room is fitted with en-suite showers, hot and cold running water, toilets, mosquito nets, and fans.

The Museum

Halfway up the hill is the Cinnamon Museum and Visitors' Centre, described as the world's only museum dedicated to the history and uses of cinnamon. Guests here have the remarkable experience of living within the museum itself. The property comprises four air-conditioned bedrooms, each catering for two guests, furnished in a classic style with cheerful contemporary fabrics and en-suite bathrooms. Set within a secluded courtyard at the heart of the plantation, the courtyard transforms at night into a dining area with a bar at one end, while the museum occupies the upper floor of the building.

Mount Cinnamon

At the summit, with extensive views over Weligama Bay and the Denipitiya Hills, sits Mount Cinnamon — a luxurious contemporary house that represents Sri Lankan art and design at its most refined. The house has three double bedrooms and one single bedroom, all air-conditioned and fitted with fans. The beds are draped with specially woven cinnamon fabric, and each room has an en-suite shower and toilet. Additional facilities include three sitting areas along a sea-facing terrace, an informal space for pre-dinner drinks, a drawing room divided by a sculpted screen, a breakfast terrace, an extra kitchen, and a swimming pool within the courtyard.
