Serendiva Beach Hotel is a small beach hotel in Wadduwa on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka, with its own stretch of sand and an outdoor swimming pool looking out over the Indian Ocean. It is a quiet, low-key place to stay, with rooms and suites, a restaurant and a bar, and a calm atmosphere that suits a few days of rest by the sea.
The hotel is on Samanthara Road in Wadduwa, close to the main coastal road, with a private beach area for guests. Wadduwa railway station, on the coastal line between Colombo and Galle, is about 1 km away, and Kalutara North station is about 6 km to the south. Colombo lies roughly 30 km to the north along the coast.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 75 km from the hotel by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private transfer arranged in advance: Lakpura can arrange one for you, with an English-speaking driver who meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the hotel in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same can be arranged in reverse for your departure flight.
Accommodation is split between rooms and suites, some of them facing the sea and others looking over the garden. Rooms are spacious, with private bathrooms, a flat-screen television, a desk and tea and coffee making facilities, and many have a balcony or terrace.
The hotel restaurant serves a mix of Sri Lankan and international dishes, with breakfast offering both Asian and full English choices, and there is a bar for drinks through the day and evening. Barbecues can be arranged, and room service is available for guests who prefer to eat in.
Most days at Serendiva Beach are spent between the beach and the pool, with massages and spa treatments available at the hotel and a gym. Further afield, the town of Kalutara to the south is known for its large white stupa at the Kalutara Bodhiya temple beside the river, and the coast beyond leads on to Bentota, Galle and its fort.
