Kalido Beach Villa is a self-contained beach house on Sea Beach Road in Kalutara North, just south of Wadduwa on Sri Lanka's south-west coast. It is let as a whole, with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room and its own kitchen, which makes it a practical choice for a family or a group of friends who want the house and the sea view to themselves.
The villa stands on the beachfront at Kalutara North, a short walk from the sand of Kalutara Beach and the stretch locals call Calido Beach, where the Kalu Ganga river meets the sea. Kalutara North railway station is about 0.6 km away and Kalutara South about 1.5 km, both on the coastal line between Colombo and Galle. Wadduwa town is about 5 km to the north, with Waskaduwa in between.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 75 km from the Wadduwa area by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the villa in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Kalido Beach Villa.
The house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms with baths, arranged around a living room with a flat-screen TV. The kitchen is fully equipped and opens onto a dining area, so you can cook and eat in whenever you like. The rooms are air-conditioned and the villa looks out over the sea.
There is free WiFi throughout the house, free private parking on site and a garden. The villa is non-smoking. As you have the whole house, there is no restaurant or reception to share, and the beach is only a few steps from the door.
Most days here are spent on the beach and in the garden, but Kalutara itself is worth an afternoon: the white stupa of the Kalutara Bodhiya temple stands beside the bridge over the Kalu Ganga, and boat trips can be arranged on the river. Further south are the turtle hatcheries of the south-west coast, the fort at Galle and Mirissa for whale-watching in season, while Colombo is close enough for a day of shopping and sightseeing. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours to all of these from the villa.
