Zen Bentota Ayurveda Resort is a small Ayurveda retreat with just five rooms, set in a quiet village just inland from Bentota on Sri Lanka's south-west coast. Until 2025 it traded as Sakura Villa, a newly built colonial-style villa in tropical gardens, and it keeps the same intimate scale and personal service under its new name, with its own Ayurveda centre, a pool and a garden of medicinal herbs.
The resort stands in Kommala, a traditional village in the Bentota area, away from the hotels along the coast road. The beaches of Bentota are about 1.9 km away, Aluthgama railway station is about 1.8 km and Bentota station about 2.2 km, so the coast is a short tuk-tuk ride from the gate while the villa itself stays green and quiet.
From Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) the drive south around Colombo and down the coast takes around 2 hours, depending on traffic and the weather on the day. The simplest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the resort in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Zen Bentota Ayurveda Resort.
There are only five rooms, which keeps the house calm and the service personal. The Deluxe Garden Suite has a king bed and a private terrace over the herb garden, the Premium Pool View room opens directly onto the pool and has a queen bed and a minibar, and the Zen Master Suite, the largest, adds a separate living area and a bathroom with a soaking tub. All the rooms are air-conditioned with their own bathrooms.
The resort's Ayurveda centre is staffed by certified practitioners, and treatments range from a single massage or herbal steam bath to structured programmes. The Rejuvenation Escape runs over two to seven days with daily treatments, yoga and meditation and organic meals; the Complete Detox is a 14-day Panchakarma programme with a personal diet plan and private yoga; and longer stays of 21 to 30 days include daily consultations with a doctor. Herbs from the garden are used in the treatments, and a small shop sells Ayurvedic products to take home.
Bentota's long beach, the river mouth and the water sports and mangrove boat trips on the Bentota River are all within easy reach. Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's country estate, and Brief Garden, created by his brother Bevis, are short drives inland, while the turtle hatcheries of Kosgoda and the Madu River lie further south along the coast. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours from the resort.
