Suhada Villa

Bentota, Sri Lanka

Suhada Villa is a small boutique hotel of five rooms in Kommala, a traditional waterside village in the Bentota resort area on Sri Lanka's south-west coast. The house is newly built in a colonial style around a 30-metre pool and tropical gardens, and with so few rooms the service is personal in a way larger hotels cannot match.

Where is Suhada Villa?

The villa stands in the village of Kommala in Bentota, in the Southern Province, a few minutes from the shore of the Indian Ocean. Bentota railway station is about 1 km away and Aluthgama station about 1.5 km, so the coastal railway is easy to reach.

How do I get from Colombo Airport to Suhada Villa?

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 110 km from Bentota, and the drive usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours on the airport and Southern expressways, depending on traffic around Colombo. The simplest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the villa in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Suhada Villa.

What are the rooms like?

There are five en-suite rooms, each individually styled on a colonial theme with a four-poster bed and air conditioning available if you want it. The rooms open onto wide verandahs looking over the gardens and the pool. They can be booked one at a time or all together, and the whole villa comfortably sleeps up to 12 people, which makes it a natural choice for a family gathering, a small wedding party or a honeymoon.

Where can I eat?

The villa's restaurant is run by an internationally trained chef who cooks fresh seafood and Sri Lankan dishes from local ingredients, and menus and meal times are arranged around what guests prefer. Meals can be taken in the restaurant, on the verandah or beside the pool.

What is there to do around Bentota?

Within the grounds, the 30-metre pool has a shallow section for children, and the gardens draw kingfishers and black monkeys, so there is plenty to watch without leaving the villa. Free Wi-Fi covers the property. Beyond the gate, Bentota's beach and river are known for water sports and boat trips, and the villa can help arrange outings along the south-west coast. Lakpura can also arrange private transfers and day tours from the hotel.
