Rockside Beach Resort is a small beach hotel at Athurwella in Induruwa, just south of Bentota, with an outdoor pool, a palm garden and its own private beach area facing the Indian Ocean. The resort runs much of its hot water and electricity on solar power, treats its water in its own clarification plant and cooks mainly with local Sri Lankan produce.
The resort stands on Galle Road at Athurwella, Induruwa, on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka, with the beach a minute's walk from the rooms. Induruwa railway station is about 1 km away, and Bentota station, on the same coastal line between Colombo and Galle, is about 3 km to the north, with Bentota town and its river a short drive beyond.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 115 km from the resort by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the south-west coast usually takes around 2 hours, depending on traffic. Lakpura can arrange a private transfer with an English-speaking driver who meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the resort in an air-conditioned vehicle sized for your group, and the same can be arranged for your departure flight.
The resort lists Deluxe Rooms of about 40 m², furnished in local teakwood, each with a balcony looking over the palm garden towards the Indian Ocean. Rooms are air-conditioned, with satellite TV, a seating area, a desk and a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer.
The restaurant serves breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening, with an international menu built largely on local produce. The hotel bar serves alcoholic and soft drinks and has a snack menu during the day, and room service is available.
Days here centre on the beach, the pool and the resort's Senses Spa, which has couples' treatment rooms, and there is also an Ayurveda centre. Water sports can be arranged at the resort, and cycling, fishing and diving are available nearby. Within a short drive are Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's country estate near Bentota, and the turtle hatcheries of Kosgoda further south. The resort's tour desk and Lakpura can both arrange private transfers and day trips along the coast.
