River Side Inn Fuji is a small, family-run guesthouse on the banks of the Bentota River, a short walk inland from Bentota Beach on Sri Lanka's south-west coast. It has a handful of rooms with terraces looking over the water, a garden with its own river access, an outdoor pool and a restaurant, and the hosts arrange boat trips into the mangroves straight from the property.
The guesthouse stands at 81 Circular Road, Obadawatta, in Bentota, right on the bank of the Bentota River. Bentota Beach is about 1.2 km away, within a ten-minute walk, and both Bentota and Aluthgama railway stations are under a kilometre away, which makes it easy to arrive by train along the coast line.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 110 km from the guesthouse by road, and the drive usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours on the airport and Southern expressways, depending on traffic around Colombo. The simplest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the guesthouse in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to River Side Inn Fuji.
There are three room categories: the Deluxe Double Room with one double bed, the Deluxe Triple Room with a double and a single bed, and the Family Room with a double and two single beds. Rooms are air-conditioned, with a private bathroom, a flat-screen TV, a desk and a terrace or balcony with a view of the river.
There is an outdoor swimming pool in the garden, a restaurant with room service, and breakfast served each morning, while the hosts will cook fresh fish dishes on request. Wi-Fi and private parking are free, and the guesthouse also offers laundry, luggage storage, bicycles for hire and barbecue grills.
The river is on the doorstep: boat safaris through the Bentota River mangroves leave from right beside the guesthouse, and the river and sea are known for water-skiing, windsurfing, snorkelling and fishing. Bentota Beach is a short walk away, Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's country estate, is a short drive inland, and the turtle hatcheries of Kosgoda are a short drive south along the coast. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours from the guesthouse.
