A children's story in Sinhala, from the writer and illustrator Sybil Wettasinghe. It sets out two explanations in the manner of a folk tale told to a child: how the hare came to be white, and why the stork stands on one leg.
The whole book is in Sinhala. There is no English text, so a reader will need Sinhala to follow it — something worth knowing before ordering from abroad. For Sri Lankan families living overseas who want their children reading in Sinhala rather than only hearing it, that is usually the point of buying it.
Sybil Wettasinghe was a Sri Lankan author and illustrator who spent her working life making books for children, and her stories are familiar to generations of Sinhala readers. The publisher, M. D. Gunasena, is a long-established Colombo house.
Suited to younger children being read to, and to early readers working through Sinhala script on their own.
