Mulkirigala Rock Temple
Mulkirigala Rock Temple is a series of temple cut into a rocky outcrop which rises sheer for over 200 meters out of the surrounding plains of Southern province of Sri Lanka. The rock walls are decorated with paintings just as in the world Heritage site of Dambulla Rock Cave Temple. The third century rock temple also houses statues of Buddha and others. Mulgirigala Poth Gula or library unearthed the tika or commentary on Mahawamsa, the great historical chronicle of Sri Lanka, which helped unlock the ancient pali script.
