Galle Fort, Sri Lanka
Galle Fort, Sri Lanka's best preserved colonial fort is a world Heritage site. Galle fort built at the seaport of Galle by the Portuguese in 1588 was occupied by the Dutch during the 17th century and then again by the British in the 18th century. Within the fort are Colonial era Churches, Buddhist temple. Mosques, museums, banks, a police station, a tourist police station, numerous other buildings, residential villas and government offices.
