Anuradhapura, a World Heritage site, had been the capital of Sri Lanka during 380 B.C.- 993 A.D. During its glorious days, Anuradhapura was the largest monastic city of the world.
The great Buddhist monuments then, was surpassed in scale only by great pyramids of Giza. Anuradhapura was mapped out by the name of Anurogrammon by the Greek cartographer Ptolemy (90-168 A.D).
