There is a sense of peace, with doorways that frame views, and windows that gorge on mountain-top light." Inside, creamy walls, wooden floors, cushioned sofas and the occasional roof open to the rafters create an atmosphere that is bright, airy and quietly welcoming.

Rooms and Accommodation

The main building houses 6 bedrooms that face the river and distant mountains, while a second building contains 4 bedrooms oriented towards the forested hill of Bahirawakanda. The property can accommodate more than 20 guests in total, though fewer than 10 guests tend to create a more intimate atmosphere. All rooms are equipped with hot water, mosquito nets and ceiling fans.

The de-luxe rooms offer stunning views, and the single standard room can be converted into a double. For families or those celebrating a special occasion, there are 2 family suites — each comprising 2 de-luxe bedrooms — as well as a honeymoon suite with a large rooftop garden that feels quite literally on top of the world.

Common Areas and Facilities

Beyond the rooms, Villa Rosa provides spacious communal spaces designed for both sociability and quiet retreat. These include a library and TV lounge, a breakfast and dining room, terraces, balconies, viewing platforms, and private garden areas suitable for reading or sunbathing. A table tennis table, a yoga platform and an Ayurveda pavilion round out the offerings. Tina, the resident dog, adds an informal warmth that guests frequently note.

Free broadband internet access is available throughout the property. In a deliberate nod to the spirit of unwinding, room telephones are not provided — though mobile reception is reported to be good, and land-line telephone and fax facilities are on hand when needed.

Getting Around

A complimentary shuttle service by tuk-tuk runs guests to a nearby hotel where they can make use of the swimming pool — a trip that younger visitors in particular tend to enjoy. The same shuttle extends to town, also free of charge, making it straightforward to explore Kandy without the burden of arranging private transport for every outing.
