Balapitiya, Sri Lanka

Balapitiya is a fishing village in the south-western coastal belt of Sri Lanka. Balapitiya is 8km south of Kosgoda beach home to turtle hatcheries, and 5 km north of Ambalangoda home the fine handicraftsmen selling masks and ornaments. Balapitiya is the favored starting point for Madu ganga river safaris. Along the stretch of river begining from Balapitiya are 64 islands rich in birdlife.
