About this experience

Set off from Galle in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your English-speaking chauffeur guide and head north into Sri Lanka's cultural triangle. On day one, explore the Dambulla Golden Cave Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as both an ancient kingdom and a monastery for Buddhist monks and pilgrims. Then climb Sigiriya, the 5th-century 'Lion Rock' Fortress built by King Kasyapa, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka's finest examples of ancient heritage. Round off the afternoon with an immersive village tour in Sigiriya.

Day two takes you into Minneriya National Park for a three-hour safari by dedicated jeep, where you scan the reservoir's edge for elephants and other wildlife. Your chauffeur guide is with you throughout both days. Note that accommodation for the overnight stay, meals, entrance fees, and gratuities are not included — your guide can advise on options on the ground.

Get a chance to go on an oxen cart ride, and experience the world from the view of a village farmer. Have a relaxing catamaran safari through a calm lake. Walk through the golden fields ripe with their harvest of paddy. Watch an enjoyable traditional cooking demonstration that teaches you the basics of Sri Lankan cuisine. Delight your taste buds with a home-cooked lunch; made over a wood-fire and served on fragrant lotus leaves placed over woven trays. Enjoy the life of a Sri Lankan villager, just this day.
