About this experience

Board a private jeep — maximum six passengers — and spend three hours exploring Wasgamuwa National Park alongside a dedicated naturalist who doubles as your tracker. Watch Sri Lankan elephants move through the scrubland, scan the tree lines for rare bird species, and let your guide point out the medicinal and ecological properties of plants most visitors walk straight past. A complimentary water bottle is provided per person, and free pickup and drop-off is included for any location within 5 km of the park gate.

Wasgamuwa carries as much history as it does wildlife. The park's landscape holds ruins and remnants of ancient civilisations, and your naturalist weaves that cultural context into the drive. Park entrance tickets are covered when you select the "Transport with Tickets" option. Food, drinks, and gratuities are not included, and hotel transfers beyond the 5 km radius carry an additional charge.

Very quiet park but its a long drive in.
Only 7 jeeps in the park the whole day. We found it good for birds but less so for anything other than the common creatures. Good number of open spaces. There appears to be only one gate in from the south and its a long…

Relaxed morning
We were traveling with the driver Shameera. He speaks a bit of German and has a lot of experience as he has been touring for 10 years. He told us a lot about the animals. It was a nice morning!

A real alternative to the other parks, but beware: elephant attacks keep happening here
A really scenic park with a number of smaller elephant herds. However, attacks by the grey giants are really commonplace here, especially a cow likes to target the jeeps. With a knowledgeable jeep driver, however, this i…
