About this experience

Depart Bentota in a private, air-conditioned vehicle driven by your English-speaking chauffeur and head into Sri Lanka's cool, verdant hill country. On day one, explore Kandy — stop at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a UNESCO World Heritage site at the heart of the city, then continue with a guided city tour. Overnight in Kandy sets you up for an early start on day two.

Day two takes you to Pinnawala, where elephants roam the plains in one of Sri Lanka's most iconic settings. Water is provided throughout. Note that hotel accommodation, entrance tickets, meals, and gratuities are not included — your Lakpura chauffeur handles all transport and guidance for the full two days.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 — Benotta > Pinnawala > Kandy

Start your journey at 0700 hrs from Bentota. You will be met by a designated chauffer guide from Lakpura Travels. After the formalities at the hotel you will be escorted to your air conditioned vehicle and proceed to Kandy and En-Route you can visit The Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF). (Travel Time – 3 to 3 ½ hrs) 

The Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF) is a family run non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to improving the welfare of domestic elephants throughout Sri Lanka. The Foundation provide and fund the care, medical treatments, food, mahout salaries, the running costs of the charity as well as having an on call Mobile Veterinary Unit which travels around the country treating sick elephants in need. The Elephant Walk Experience is another alternative to elephant riding for tourists, which is an ethical, up close and personal experience for tourists. 

Thereafter proceed to the Kandy hotel, check in and relax. (Travel Time – 20 to 30 mins) 

Later in go on a city tour and technical tours related to arts such as gem crafting, woodcarving and batiks. Thereafter watch the Kandyan Cultural Show with its colorful traditional dances and delightful music. 

The Kandy Cultural Show gives an opportunity to experience some of the traditions of Sri Lanka. Enjoy this hour long extravaganza as some of the most popular art forms of the island take to the stage. Get wowed by fire dancers and sword dancers. Watch the colorful Kandyan dancers take to the air to the thrumming primal beat of the drums. 

On completion return back to the hotel and relax.

Day 2 — Kandy > Peadeniya > Bentota

 After breakfast at the hotel check out and visit Temple Run Tour in Kandy.  

Get amazed by the wood crafting masterpiece that is the Embekke Temple. Wander through the historic and beautiful Gadaladeniya Temple and view its wonderful paintings and sculptures. Visit the Lankatilaka temple that was quite architecturally advanced for its time. See awe-striking sight of the Degaldoruwa Cave Temple, the inside walls of which are covered in painstakingly restored paintings. Visit the internationally famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic with its palatial cream and gold interiors. 

Thereafter proceed to Peradeniya and visit Royal Botanical Gardens. (Travel Time – 20 to 30 mins) 

Visit the famous Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya, which were formed in the early 19th century. Walk through the vast area containing over 4000 species of plants.
Enjoy the learning more about the orchids, spices and medicinal plants. Wander down avenues shaded by large and rare trees, or bordered by flowering plants. Enjoy seeing the cannonball tree, walking over the wobbly suspension bridge and through the short hedge mazes or even climbing the twisty trees that make wonderful jungle gyms. 

On completion start your journey back to your hotel in Bentota. (Travel Time – 4 to 4 ½ hrs)
