Hotel Topaz stands at Aniwatte on the hills above Kandy, Sri Lanka's historic hill capital, with the lake just below. It sits a short distance from the city centre, about 1.2 km away, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and Kandy Railway Station is about 1.1 km from the hotel.
The drive from Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake is about 114 km and usually takes 2.5 to 3 hours, and trains and buses also run to Kandy from Colombo every day. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Hotel Topaz.
The hotel has 75 rooms decorated in a contemporary Sri Lankan style, including 6 suites, among them a royal suite with king-sized beds. Standard guestrooms have a minibar, a safe, satellite television, tea and coffee making facilities, Wi-Fi, an attached bathroom with hot water and a private balcony looking out over the surroundings.
There is a garden to explore and a rooftop terrace with a 360-degree view of Kandy and the hills, used for high tea, cocktails, barbecues and private dinners. The main restaurant serves buffet meals and an à la carte menu, with theme nights of dishes from around the world. The hotel also has a spa, a gym, a pool and a TV lounge with a large collection of DVD films, and meetings and business conferences can be arranged on request.
Kandy's temples, including the Temple of the Tooth Relic, and the city's museums are close by, and the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya are a short drive out. For walkers, the Hanthane mountain range rises above the city; a guide is recommended at all times.
