Dolphin Beach Resort is a beachside tented retreat at Elanthadiya on the Kalpitiya peninsula, in north-western Sri Lanka, with direct access to the beach. Kalpitiya town is about 21 km away and Puttalam about 9.5 km as the crow flies across the lagoon, and the resort is a short drive from the peninsula's dolphin-watching spots.
The resort is 98 km as the crow flies from Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake; by road the route is about 140 km and usually takes 3 to 3.5 hours, depending on traffic and the weather. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Dolphin Beach Resort.
Guests stay in furnished tents rather than conventional rooms. Each has comfortable beds, an en-suite bathroom and a private veranda with a view of the ocean, and the tents are spacious enough for families.
There is an outdoor pool set against the beach, designated relaxation areas used for yoga, and outdoor play areas for children. The resort offers water sports including kayaking, snorkelling and kite surfing, with access to kite-surfing schools and equipment hire.
The on-site restaurant cooks with fresh, local ingredients, with a focus on seafood and traditional Sri Lankan dishes.
Kalpitiya is known for dolphin and whale watching, with boat tours out to sea, and for snorkelling trips to the Bar Reef. Boat tours also explore the lagoons and mangrove forests, Wilpattu National Park is within reach for a safari to look for leopards, elephants and birdlife, and St. Anne's Church at Thalawila is a historic Catholic church nearby.

Amazing air conditioned room that felt like a tent. Fabulous private outdoor shower and the staff were so nice. Food was wonderful and it was the perfect place to recover after a hot day on the road from Colombo
