Mihintale Mountain is a significant Buddhist site located near the ancient city of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. Known as the cradle of Sri Lankan Buddhism, Mihintale is where the Buddhist monk Mahinda is said to have met King Devanampiya Tissa in the 3rd century BCE, leading to the island's conversion to Buddhism. The mountain features a series of ancient ruins, including temples, stupas, and stone carvings. The highlight is the Mihintale Stupa, which stands atop the mountain, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The site is also home to the *Mihintale rock*, where the famous *Mahinda cave* and inscriptions are found, marking the place where Mahinda preached the teachings of the Buddha to the king and his court.
