About this experience
Board a 4x4 safari jeep — shared with up to six passengers — and head into Lunugamvehera National Park, a protected reserve established in 1995 to safeguard the Lunugamvehera reservoir's catchment area. Over three hours, your experienced driver-cum-tracker guides you through terrain that shelters large elephant herds as they move along the corridor between Yala and Udawalawe National Parks, alongside an impressive variety of water birds drawn to the reservoir and surrounding wetlands. A bottle of water per person is provided, and Lakpura arranges free pickup and drop-off for any location within 5 km of the park entrance gate.
The park sits 261 kilometres southwest of Colombo and is open to visitors following years of closure during the civil war. Note that park entrance fees are paid separately in cash on the day, and food, beverages, and gratuities are not included. Children aged five and above are welcome on this safari.
