|
| Barberyn Reef Ayurveda Resort, Sri Lanka's pioneer health resort specializing in Ayurveda, the traditional healing system of medicine dating back about 5000 years. Ayurveda tackles the stresses and ailments of modern living in a uniquely natural and holistic way.
The resort is now re-opened after an extensive renovation and refurbishment retaining the warm and friendly ambience that guests have come to love.
It may seem bizarre to claim all-pervasive "knowledge" of something as utterly intangible as life itself. Yet the literal translation of Ayurveda is "knowledge" - or more precisely, the knowledge of what is required to ensure a long life of optimal physical, mental and spiritual health.
Since Barberyn Reef Resort first started offering Ayurvedic holidays to overseas guests some 22 years ago , it has maintained the highest reputation and continues to be the leader in this field. |

|
| Located on Sri Lanka's south-west coast, 85km from the International Airport, Barberyn Reef is one of few resorts that can be described as being literally "on the beach". Sand stretches for miles along the shore and the resort is sheltered by a long coral reef running the length of the property, forming a natural lagoon ideal for swimming. Barberyn provides a unique environment enabling guests to combine the benefits of Ayurveda with a memorable tropical vacation.

The Reading Room
In search of wisdom
The concept of well being at Barberyn has three dimensions – the healing of the body, developing the clarity of the mind and enhancing spiritual awareness and compassion.
The Oriental Collection
The arts and crafts Shop
As the suburban sprawl extends to the village, old crafts that rely on patient hand work give way to modern industries and employment in the "factory". In an effort to revive some of the village crafts, and provide a sales point, the Oriental Collection draws together the work of artists and crafts people from several countries in this region. Many of the products are made using skills and designs handed down from generation to generation – beautiful testaments to the region’s rich culture and history.
Conference Facilities
Barberyn Reef provides three conference rooms to hold workshops / seminars and forums and these facilities are used by a wide range of government and non-government organizations and companies. Following are the details of the three rooms:The Town Hall, The Conference Room,The Meeting Place.

The Dining Room
The Dining room reflects the mood of the resort. Sri Lankan tradition requires that the host shares the food of the house with the guests. The best of ingredients go into the preparation of the meals and the service comes with the quiet efficiency. The management structure of the resort is most evident in the dining room where the waiters work smoothly without instruction from overbearing supervisors.

Personalized Tours - Experience Sri Lanka
Barberyn is happy to put together a customized itinerary - including a private air conditioned vehicle, with English speaking driver and accommodation in hotels - based on your preference and interests. In this way, Barberyn can help make your visit both health-restoring and culturally rewarding.
Tours are pre-arranged and usually commence on arrival at the airport and vary in length depending on the guest requirements. Depending on the time of arrival of the flight, some guests prefer to stay overnight close to the airport and start the tour the next day.

Yoga: A gentle workout for body and mind
Gentle yoga is a powerful complement to Ayurvedic treatments
Although recently embraced in the West, Yoga has been recognized and practiced for thousands of years in South Asia as a powerful complement to Ayurvedic medicine and healing. Ayurveda and Yoga come from the same philosophical matrix. They examine the body - mind concept from the perspective of maintenance of health and the treatment of disease.
Meditation and spiritual awareness
Helping to restore the natural balance of body and mind and increase self-awareness. Ayurveda, including yoga and meditation have been central to the lifestyles of the people who own and manage Barberyn Resorts.
Traditional Buddhist customs are preserved at the resort and guests are free to participate if they wish. The resort also organizes visits to temples, churches and mosques and guests can borrow from the owners' collection of books and audio/ video material on spiritual aspects of life on a range of subjects including "Self Knowledge".
Barberyn Cooking Classes
The Barberyn chefs believe that when you cook, you participate in the nourishment and vitality of yourself and those around you. The more awareness you bring to the process, the greater the healing you derive from the food.
The chefs and the physicians thus come together each week at Barberyn to provide guests with an understanding of the dietary principles of Ayurveda, the basic ingredients used and ways of preparing simple and delicious meals.
