Bandarawela is a busy market town at an elevation of 1230m. Bandarawela was once said to have one of the healthiest climates in the world. Some of the best and most 'flavoured tea' is said to come from this area. The best pears and strawberries are also grown here since the climate is dry and mild.
Bandarawela is an ideal base for excursions to Horton Plains, Adisham Monastery, the tea plantations, nearby waterfalls, Udawalawe Wildlife Sanctuary and Hakgala Botanical Gardens.
